US embassy issues security reminder for citizens

Citizens of the United States of America living in Bangladesh need to be on alert because of ‘a possible terrorist threat for New Year's Eve’, the US Department of State said in a security message yesterday.
As per a security message issued by the US embassy in Dhaka, the US citizens currently in Bangladesh have been asked to take stringent security measures and be alert to local security developments during the holiday season.
According to the embassy message, there is an ongoing potential for extremist violence in Bangladesh.
 It said the ‘Travel Warning’ issued on July 10 after the two terrorist attacks was still in effect and that the terrorist threat still remains credible.
The US embassy also noted that the government of Bangladesh has increased security in Dhaka for New Year's Eve.
The statement said police have recently carried out raids on suspected militants and multiple media reports have quoted officials as stating that they uncovered explosive devices and plans for attacks.
