New Zealand will be keen on exacting revenge on Bangladesh for the One-day International whitewashes they had suffered during their visits to the country in 2010 and 2013. With the home side already claiming the series by winning the first two ODIs, they will be keen on taking the third ODI, and with it a series sweep, reports Cricbuzz.
The third and last ODI match will be held at Saxton Oval in Nelson today. The match will start at 4am BST.
Tim Southee, who is set to take rest after the ODI series, hinted that revenge was on the minds of the New Zealand players. “We know going to Bangladesh isn't easy, so we want to make it as tough as we can for them when they come here,” the pacer said ahead of the third ODI in Nelson.
New Zealand have won both their earlier games in comprehensive fashion, and will be outright favourites for the third ODI. Bangladesh, however, have been far from a team that can be overlooked. After a sound defeat in the first ODI, in which Tom Latham scored a fine hundred before a scorching half century by Colin Munro helped New Zealand amass 341, Bangladesh fought back hard to put themselves in good positions in the second ODI.
They had New Zealand in a spot at 107 for 5, but let their grasp slip as Neil Broom notched up his maiden ODI hundred. Chasing 252, Bangladesh looked on course at 105 for 1, but contrived to lose three wickets to the part-time offspin of Kane Williamson and were bowled out for 184.
If Bangladesh manage to make use of the opportunities that present themselves, they should be able to challenge the hosts. Ending the year on a winning note should also push them to do better in the other matches.
