Bangladesh out to stay alive

2nd ODI against Proteas today
Sports Reporter

Bangladesh are out to stay alive in the three-match ODI series as they take on South Africa today in the second match at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium. The day-night affair will begin at 3pm.
Knowing that a loss would cost them the series and halt their run of success at home den in ODI cricket, Bangladesh players are told to go to the basics.
As the series is at stake, following a poor application in batting, the batsmen are asked to take more responsibility. Despite losing the series, India snapped Bangladesh’s 10-match winning streak at home, winning the third match and then South Africa inflicted a more damage, showing a clinical performance in the Twenty20 series and first ODI. All of those matches, Bangladeshi batsmen could never play the quota of full overs.
In order to expose the South Africa’s vulnerability against spinners, Bangladesh prepared a slow and low wicket which actually backfired them. The visitors rather adapted into the condition well while Bangladesh found them in a position of bewilderment in this pitch after playing the World Cup and home series against India and Pakistan in true wicket.

“Nothing has happened suddenly. Actually the wicket was a bit different when played against India and Pakistan, in those series you could just go and hit on this wicket. You can’t do that you need to stay on the wicket for a while. We are trying to learn to take that amount of time on the wicket. That’s pretty much it,” said Bangladesh all-rounder Nasir Hossain.
“From what I’ve known, the wicket will be the same so our target will be to play 50 overs. We have the ability to beat South Africa and I think we just haven’t been able to click. If our batsmen can click, we can beat them. If we can do everything according to plan then you will see that the entire scenario has changed,” he added.
Bangladesh last won against South Africa in 2007 World Cup, riding on a magical 87 runs knock of Mohammad Ashraful.
That was Bangladesh’s only win against South Africa across the format, after playing eight Tests, 15 ODIs and four Twenty20 matches.
The weather also forecast a persistent drizzle today. However while the South Africa didn’t expect Rabada to repeat the same feat, they were confident of sealing the fate of the series in the second ODI.
“It was fantastic to see KG (Kagiso Rabada) doing so well.  He bowled like absolute champion. Obviously getting a hat-trick and six wickets is phenomenal achievement. All the hard work that he put in as a youngster and all the dreams are coming true for him. I wish him all the best in his career,” South Africa batsman David Miller said.
