Sports Reporter

Captain Sabina Khatun blasted five goals as Bangladesh national women’s team made a flying start in the SAFF Women’s Football Championship thrashing Afghanistan 6-0 at the Kanchenjunga Stadium in Siliguri of India yesterday. By virtue of the convincing victory, Bangladesh also stormed into the semifinal of the tournament. Sabina, who led the team from the front, opened the flood gate on the fourth minute of the game. She doubled the margin four minutes later and added another two on the 38th and 42nd minute of the first half. Taking the field with a 4-nil lead after the first half, Sabina again struck on the 48th minute to close her account while Israt Jahan Shawpna added the last nail on the Afghan coffin to celebrate the emphatic 6-0 victory. Bangladesh will play their last group match tomorrow against hosts and favourites India and they will need a draw to be group champions. India defeated Afghanistan in the opening match by 5-1.
