The fourth anniversary of Mirsarai road crash, which had claimed 45 lives, was observed in Mirsarai upazila in Chittagong yesterday. In memory of the deceased, Housing and Public Works Minister Engineer Mosharraf Hossain MP placed floral wreaths in the monument ‘Abeg’ (Emotion), adjacent to Bartakia, the spot where the accident occurred around 11am.
Later, a condolence meeting was held yesterday at Abu Torab Bahumukhi High School. With the minister in the chair, the condolence meeting was addressed by Chittagong University Vice-chancellor Dr Iftekhar Uddin Chowdhury and Information and Technology expert Mahbubur Rahman, among others.
Speaking in the meeting the minister said, “The construction of the monument titled ‘Antim’ (last moment), planned to be built to the memory of the deceased, will be completed.”
Next year we can pay placed wreaths in ‘Antim’, he added.
Besides, different schools in the upazila also arranged prayer session as part of observing the day.
On the day, a truck carrying 60 students skidded off the road and fell into a roadside ditch at Abu Torab in the upazila killing 44 students and a local guardian. The students were returning home after enjoying a school football match held in Mirsarai stadium.
