The city's imitation ornament sellers are doing brisk business ahead of the Eid-ul-fitr.
The shop owners said their best selling period is last ten days of Ramzan, when female consumers buy fancy ornaments matching with their dresses. People of all classes are going to ornament markets like Shaheb Bazaar, RDA Market, New Market and other shopping malls of the city to purchase imitation jewelries of their choice.
They are now buying various trendy imitation ornaments, like earrings, finger rings, necklaces, bracelets, toe-rings, armlets and anklets.
Monwar Hossain Roko, salesman of an imitation ornaments shop at Shaheb Bazaar, said they are dealing with a large number of shoppers every day and doing good business.
“We have sold ornaments worth around Tk 50 to 60 thousand per day this week, which was Tk 25 to 30 thousand before Ramzan,” he said.
Sobur Ali, another ornament shop owner of RDA Market, said high, higher-middle and middle class people usually purchase gold ornaments for the Eid-ul-fitr or other festivals. But for the last three or four years they could not buy gold products due to high prices. That is why; the demand of imitation ornaments has increased from last three to four years.
“We are getting highest response from the shoppers ahead of Eid-ul-fitr. Aiming at the Eid markets, we have introduced hundreds of varieties and eye-catching imitation ornaments to our customers,” Ali added.
However, this year customers are choosing Anuradha earrings, stone necklaces and finger rings, Pakistani and city gold bracelets.
Per pair of bracelets sells at Tk 350 to Tk1500, a single piece of necklace at Tk 550 to Tk 3,000, per pair of earrings at Tk 150 to Tk 1200, finger-ring at Tk 120 to Tk 1500, he added.
Nargis Akger Nisha, student of a private University of Rajshahi, who came with her friends to buy earrings at Shaheb Bazaar, said that she has already purchased two dresses for this Eid. She will buy earrings matching with her dresses. "There are huge collections of various eye-catching ornaments in this market, actually we are facing indecisiveness to pick up the best ones,” Nisha said.
Munira Jannat, another customer of ornaments market, said both collections and designs are better than those of the last year, but the price of every item is high.
