Eight universities will set up fabrication laboratories (Fab Labs) to create innovative ideas among researchers, teachers and students, reports UNB.
Seven public universities and one private one yesterday signed an agreement with the University Grants Commission (UGC) for setting up the Fab Labs in their respective institutions, said a UGC media release.
The agreement was signed between the universities’ authorities and UGC Secretary Dr Md Khaled at UGC auditorium. UGC chairman Prof Abdul Mannan, UGC members Prof Mohammad Yousuf Ali Mollah and Prof Dil Afroza Begum were present.
The eight universities are Dhaka University, Bangladesh Agricultural University, Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University, Chittagong University of Engineering and Technology, Dhaka University of Engineering and Technology, Khulna University of Engineering and Technology, Rajshahi University of Engineering and Technology and Independent University, Bangladesh.
Speaking on the occasion, the UGC chairman said the concept of Fab Lab is new in Bangladesh, but it is being practised in many countries in the world.
