Area-wise security steps for Eid this time: DMP

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) will take up area-wise special security measures in the capital on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr this time, Monirul Islam, joint commissioner of Detective Branch, DMP, said at a press briefing at its Mintu Road office in the capital yesterday.
“The special security steps will be taken two days before Eid and those will be in place till things come back to their regular form,” added Monirul Islam, also spokesperson of DMP.
Police camps, police stations, police boxes will work in the areas in association with the private security companies, he said.
“Around one crore people will leave Dhaka to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr outside. The security forces will remain active to curb crimes in the city areas. Close Circuit Cameras (CC TV) will be active in the residential area. The number of CCTV will be increased if necessary,” said Monirul.
The DMP official also asked all to examine the close circuit camera televisions (CCTVs) installed at different residential and commercial buildings and make necessary repair arrangements for those to ensure foolproof security.
Law enforcers have been instructed to perform their duties with utmost sincerity and professional dedication to thwart criminal activities during the festival.
Earlier, Director General of Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) Benazir Ahmed on Thursday said Rab has taken all out security measures alongside other law enforcing agencies so that home-bound people can reach their destinations safely during Eid journey.
Briefing reporters while visiting Kamalapur Railway Station, the Rab DG said seven to eight million people will leave Dhaka for their native villages to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr with their near and dear ones.
“We have taken all-out security measures so that the home-bound people can reach their destinations as well as return to Dhaka safely,” he added.
He also said temporary camps of Rab have been set up in the bus stands, railway stations and launch terminals outside Dhaka for security of passengers.
