New year party held for international students in Kunming

Kunming University of Science and Technology (KUST) held the 6th annual new year party for international students on December 23.

Performances at the party were given by over 200 international students and teachers from 15 countries.

More than 1,300 attended the party, and among them are student parents from Laos and the US, as well as officials from in-Kunming consulate generals.

“The party aims to bridge the cultural gaps between Chinese and overseas students, provides them with a chance to show their talents and enrich the culture life at campus,” said Peng Jinhui, president of Kunming University of Science and Technology.

With the biggest school size among Yunnan higher education institutions, the university has stepped up educational internationalization in recent years.The number of international students in the university has increased from 304 in 2009 to 1,447 in 2016, ranking 84 in Chinese universities.
