“It is so beautiful and moving!” Yin Xiaojun’s photo albums receive this sort of praise everywhere they are displayed.
Mr. Kishore Shrestha, chairman of Nepal-China Medium Forum, said he would recommend the album—which record the ancient buildings and towns of Nepal before the violent 2015 earthquake—to Nepal’s National Museum.
During a cultural exchanges tour of Nepal entitled Beautiful Shangri-La, Yunnan, held on December 2, panoramic photographer Yin Xiaojun sorted through 90,000 photos taken five months before the great earthquake. From this collection, he created 200 high-definition panoramic photographs, and donated the album to the Nepal-China Medium Forum. Yin hopes it will be helpful in the restoration and reconstruction of Nepal. “It is an accurate record of Nepal’s cultural legacy before the earthquake,” he said.
As a Chinese photographer, why would he donate his photos to Nepal’s government? After hearing Yin Xiaojun’s explanation, the participants on the spot stood up to applaud spontaneously, expressing their heartfelt thanks.
Yin Xiaojun said, “As early as the end of 2014, I went to Nepal and took 90,000 photos. It was a record of all the ancient sites in Kathmandu and the streets and alleys of Bhaktapur. After learning of Nepal’s great earthquake, I was burning with anxiety, and decided immediately to donate these photos to the government of Nepal. I am sure these photos will serve as a very good record for Nepal’s restoration of its antique buildings, and for restoration and recording of mankind’s cultural heritage.”
Kishore Shrestha remarked, “the Nepalese are very proud of our cultural and historic sites, yet, it is a great pity that these places have been damaged. Now, the photographer from Yunnan, Yin Xiaojun, has taken a great many photos recording scenes from Nepal before the earthquake, which will help in reconstruction efforts after the disaster. It is the first such record by a panoramic photographer, and shows his great love for Nepal.
