“It’s really too fast! From Kunming to Fuyuan, it now only takes 40 minutes! The high-speed rail is really so expedient!” Recently, with the opening of the Shanghai-Kunming High-speed Railway, our reporters took the train from Kunmingnan Station to Fuyuan. It was a special taste of what is in store on the Shanghai-Kunming High-speed Rail. They started off from Kunming, and the 180-kilometre journey took only 43 minutes.
Personnel at the Kunming South Station told our reporter that the station has 90 automatic ticket selling windows and 41 manual ticket selling windows. According to estimates concerning passenger movement, during the early stages five manual ticket selling windows will be open. Shortly afterwards, the 90 automatic ticket selling windows will go into operation.
From Kunmingnan Station, our reporters took the Shanghai-Kunming Special Line to Fuyuan North Station. The time to arrive at Fuyuan North Station was 43 minutes. During the trip, the highest speed reached was nearly 300 kilomtres per hour. The highest speed on the Shanghai-Kunming High-speed Rail is projected to be 380 kilomtres per hour, with an average speed of 300 kilomtres per hour.
Although the train was as swift as the wind and lightning, it ran comfortably. Someone put a bottle of mineral water on the table, and then made another bottle of mineral water stand atop it upside down. The two bottles of mineral water stood for a long time without falling.
On the high-speed rail, the train’s operation signals were all correct, ensuring full operations over a 4G network. The trainman said, “The high-speed train has 12 toilets altogether, and each train has eight compartments, including two with first-class and commercial seats, while the dining car of the train is located in the middle.
Moreover, all the seats can be adjusted in the angle according to each person’s needs. Behind each seat, there is a disposable bag and each row of seats has a socket to charge mobile phones or small computers. The train can carry a maximum of 556 passengers.
The journey from Kunmingnan Station to Fuyuan North Station took only 43 minutes. This means that compared to an ordinary train traveling at a speed of 120 kilomtres per hour, the high-speed rail takes 43 minutes to cover this 180-kilometer-long distance. And with improved speeds, it only takes 11 hours to cover the entire journey from Shanghai to Kunming, which is 2,252 kilometers.
