NOAB concerned over move to form 9th Wage Board

Newspaper Owners Association of Bangladesh (NOAB) has expressed concerns over news reports on the move to form the Ninth Wage Board for newspapers and said such moves before the completion of five years of implementing the earlier wage board was not acceptable.

The NOAB expressed the concern at its annual meeting held on December 10, a press release said yesterday.
“The NOAB meeting discussed about the ongoing move to form the 9th Wage Board following some news reports.

A proposal of the meeting said that the 8th Wage Board was implemented three years ago in September, 2013.
It requires an analysis on how much logical it is to declare the 9th Wage Board. A new wage board has never been declared in the past before five years of announcing the earlier wage board,” the release said.
“Annual increments are given every year for adjustment of inflation.
So the formation of the 9th Wage Board before at least five years is not acceptable,” the release added.
The NOAB has taken a position that there should be supervision and assessment on how much award of the 8th Wage Board has been implemented because many newspaper houses have not even implemented the 7th Wage Board award.
It also said that the past experiences say that there are some unsettled matters including the structure of the newspapers.
“Though these matters had been discussed in the past but no solution came out and it is imperative to address the unsettled issues through discussion before the declaration of the new wage board,” observed the association of the newspaper owners.
