Comilla Medical College closed after BCL factional clash

UNB

The authorities declared Comilla Medical College closed for an indefinite period yesterday following a clash between two factions of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), reports UNB.
Earlier, a clash broke out between two factions of BCL’s Comilla Medical College unit over establishing supremacy on the campus in the morning.
Abdur Rab, officer-in-charge of Kotwali Model Police Station, said two groups of BCL activists – one led by Nawshad and the other by Rahat -- locked into a clash on the college campus at about 1.30am yesterday.
Later, the two groups, equipped with sharp weapons, attacked each other yesterday morning over the same issue.
At one stage, a chase and counter-chase took place between them that left 10 students injured.
Five of the injured were admitted to Comilla Medical College Hospital.
The academic council sat in a meeting around 10:00am yesterday and took the decision fearing further deterioration of the situation, said Principal of the college Prof Mohsin-Uz-Zaman Chowdhury.
The male and female students have been asked to vacate their dormitories by 11:00am and 4:00pm respectively.
Meanwhile, a three-member probe committee has been formed to investigate the incident, said the Principal.
