Post-harvest fish safety imperative for sound public health

RAJSHAHI: Scientists and researchers yesterday called for ensuring post-harvest fish safety for sound public health, reports BSS.
They mentioned contribution of fishes is very important to meeting up country’s gradually mounting demands of protein. So, all concerned should come forward and work together for freeing the post-harvest fishes from all sorts of contamination and pollution.
The observation came in the workshop titled “Safety and Hygiene Issues in Fisheries Post Harvest: Emphasis on dried fishery products” at Senate Building of Rajshahi University (RU) yesterday. RU’s Department of Fisheries hosted the seminar in association with Higher Education Quality Enhancement Project (HEQEP) being implemented through Bangladesh University Grants Commission.
The conference will help establishing a platform of the researchers and practitioners as well as industries to convene the worldwide quality dried fisheries products production and promotion target.
Pro Vice chancellor Prof Chowdhury Sarwar Jahan addressed the session as chief guest while HEQEP Director Dr Gouranga Chandra Mohanta and Dean of Agriculture Faculty Prof Saiful Islam spoke as special guests with Chairman of the department Prof Afzal Hussain in the chair.
Prof Sarwar Jahan puts emphasis on awareness development and advanced sustainable technology for small cottage industry to attain the cherished goal.
More than 100 teachers, researchers, students and professionals from home and abroad are taking part in the seminar. In addition to some academic sessions, ten research papers are scheduled to be presented there.
