Sports Reporter

Saif Hassan, the Under-19 captain showed his mettle by hitting a brilliant century as Dhaka Division took the upperhand against Khulna Division on the second day of the fifth round match of the National Cricket League yesterday at Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium, Fatullah.

Resuming on 89, Saif completed his maiden first class century and finally was out on 109 which steered Dhaka to a strong 366 before the bowlers made it their day by reducing Khulna to 195 for five at stumps in the Tier-1 game.
Tushar Imran was not out on 71 which gave Khulna a ray of hope to take a lead but with five wickets at hands, Dhaka apparently are in strong position to take the stranglehold.
Before the century of Saif, Roqibul Hassan made 111 to help the side set a strong platform. Saif hit four fours and three sixes in his knock.
Veteran left arm spinner Abdur Razzak snapped up five for 103 for Khulna.
In another Tier-1 game at BKSP, the match between Dhaka Metro and Barisal Division remained evenly matched.
Metro added just 37 runs to their overnight total of 255 for seven to be all out for 292 with Mehrab Junior making highest 61 runs. Monir Hossain took five for 51 to deal the blow.
Metro bowler however didn’t give Barisal batsmen any respite. Fast bowler Abu Hider Rony struck early to leave them in precarious situation but on the back of some patient partnerships Barisal clawed back into the game. However Rony continued his good work while ably supported by left arm spinner Elias Sunny. Both of them took two each as Barisal ended the second day on 165 for five, trailing by 127 runs.
In Tier-2 game at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chittagong, Tasamul Haque made 104 as Chittagong Division placed them in comfortable position on day two. Chittagong was bowled out for 315 and then raised the hope of taking a big lead as Rajshahi ended the second day on 223 for eight. Skipper Jahurul Islam Omee hit 90 runs. Kazi Kamrul Islam claimed three for 69 for Chittagong.
At Sylhet Divisional Stadium in another Tier-2 game, hosts Sylhet were in driving seat against Rangpur Division despite Nasir Hossain’s unbeaten century. They were shot out for 272 in their first innings as Jaker Ali was the highest scorer with 88. Nasir Hossain was not out on 105 as Rangpur were 175 for five at stumps.
