Burundi presidential vote delayed
AFP, BUJUMBURA: Presidential elections in the crisis-hit central African nation of Burundi have been postponed to July 21, nearly a week later than originally scheduled, the presidency announced yesterday.
A decree signed by President Pierre Nkurunziza, whose controversial bid to stand for a third consecutive five-year term has sparked weeks of civil unrest, said the polls would be moved from July 15 to July 21, with campaigning extended until the evening of July 18.
Actor Roger Rees dies
AFP, NEW YORK: Roger Rees, the Tony Award-winning actor who appeared in "The West Wing" and "Cheers," has died at 71, his agent said.
Rees died at his home in New York city Friday after a brief illness, his agent said.
Born in Wales in 1944, Rees's performing career began on the stage, where he went on to win a 1982 best actor Tony for his role in the theatrical adaptation of Charles Dickens's "The Life and Adventures of Nicholas Nickleby."
Tunisia recovers 27 dead migrants
AP/UNB Tunis: Tunisian authorities have recovered 27 corpses of migrants off the Mediterranean Coast who apparently died trying to reach Italy from Libya.
Migrant crossings over the Mediterranean toward Europe have continued to mount in recent weeks, but the death toll has been dropping thanks to a renewed EU-coordinated
