Rajshahi: Intern doctors of Rajshahi Medical College Hospital (RMCH) withdrew their strike on Tuesday night.
The doctors withdrew their strike following the assurance from the hospital authorities and local Awami League leaders to ensure the punishment of the attackers.
On Monday night, the doctors called indefinite strike protesting a attack on an intern doctor by relatives of a patient.
Meanwhile, patients and their attendants suffered lack of treatment for hours at RMCH as intern doctors held demonstrations locking emergency gate demanding workplace security.
Relatives of a patient locked into an altercation with an intern doctor Abu Noim Porag when he asked them to leave the ward on Monday evening, Rayhan Sharif, secretary of the hospital’s Intern Doctors Association. At one stage, the relatives reportedly assaulted Porag. On the other hand, the hospital authority filed a case in connection with the attack accusing the two relatives and the police arrested Jimi, said Amanullah Aman, officer-in-charge of Rajpara Police Station.
