15th Dhaka Int’l Film Fest to begin Jan 12
Organisers of Dhaka International Film Festival arrange a press conference at Dhaka Club in the capital yesterday.

The 15th edition of Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) is going to be held from January 12 to 20, 2017. The main theme of the festival is ‘Nandonik Chalachitra, Nandonik Darshak, Alokito Somaj’ (Better Film, Better Audience, Better Society). During the 15th DIFF, organisers will screen about 188 films from 67 countries across the globe. The festival will have a competition section for Asian and Australian cinema;  the categories are ‘Retrospective’, ‘Cinema of the World’, ‘Nordic Film Session’, ‘Children’s Film’, ‘Women Filmmakers’, ‘Short and Independent Films Section’ and ‘Spiritual Films Section’. The festival will begin on January 12 at the main auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum, where internationally co-produced drama film ‘3000 Nights’ by Mai Masri will be screened as the opening film.
This year, the 15th DIFF will screen a total of 16 Bangladeshi films, including ‘Aynabazi’, ‘Oggatonama’, ‘Matir Projar Deshe’, ‘Lalchor’. Besides, a number of 85 foreign guests will participate in the festival. The films will be screened simultaneously at the several venues in the capital, including main auditorium and Sufia Kamal auditorium of Bangladesh National Museum, Shawkat Osman Auditorium of Central Public Library, Alliance Française de Dhaka, Star Cineplex and EMK Center. Apart from holding regular film shows and film related seminars and workshops, Rainbow also brings out ‘The Celluloid’, one of the leading cinema periodicals from Bangladesh with an international audience. The festival has been organised on a regular basis by Rainbow Film Society, which has been dedicated to the promotion of a healthy cine culture in Bangladesh and in celebrating the global mainstream in film and its social relevance since 1977. To disclose the above information, a press conference was held at Dhaka Club in the capital yesterday, where president of Rainbow Film Society and festival director Ahmed Muztaba Zamal presented the keynote paper. During the press conference, M Hamid, Haider Rizvi, Dr Nazmul Hasan Kolimullah and IFIC Bank Deputy Managing Director Shah Muhammad Moinuddin were present, among others.
