Qatar seeks support in Unesco DG election

Qatar has sought support from Bangladesh to elect its representative to the post of Director-General of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (Unesco) for the 2017-2021 period, reports UNB. Visiting Qatar Amir’s Adviser Dr Hamad bin Abdulaziz Al Kuwari, who will contest the Unesco DG post, met Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor at the Secretariat and sought the support.
Dr Hamad, a former minister for culture, arts and heritage, is now visiting Bangladesh as part of his campaign to gather support from Bangladesh in the election. At the meeting with Noor, he said the Qatar government announced that it nominated him to the Unesco DG post, which is supposed to fall vacant by November 2017.
