Awami League Advisory Council Member and Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed yesterday said the next general election will be held under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, reports BSS. "BNP has made a mistake as it did not take part in the general election on January 5 (in 2014). I hope BNP will take part in all election like Narayanganj City Corporation polls to avoid any more mistakes," he told a memorial meeting on veteran Awami League leader Abdur Razzak at Dhaka University Teacher-Student Centre here yesterday evening.
Abdur Razzak Smriti Parishad and Foundation organised the meeting marking the 5th death anniversary of Abdur Razzak with the president of the organization Professor Abdul Mannan Chowdhury in the chair. Awami League Presidium Member and Health and Family Welfare Minister Mohammed Nasim, Joint General Secretary Mahbub-ul Alam Hanif, Workers Party President and Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon, Jatiya Party General Secretary Sheikh Sahidul Islam, Ramesh Chandra Sen, MP, AKM Jahangir, MP and Abdur Razzak's son Nahim Razzak, MP and journalist Mozammel Babu, among others, addressed the meeting.
Tofail Ahmed called upon BNP to take preparation for the next elections stopping placing newer demands.
About the NCC polls, the Awami League leader said during the election in NCC, BNP leaders said that on the whole day election was held free, fair and peaceful manner.
"But when BNP was defeated in the election, they started saying rigging took place in the polls. No political party can make such behavior, unless it becomes bankrupt politically," Tofail said.
Recalling the long political life of Abdur Razzak, the minister said though there were political differences, Abdur Razzak was popular among all political parties.
"He never derailed from the ideology of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman until his death. He always believed in progressive and non-communal ideology," he said. The minister Abdur Razzak had dreamt that one day the country would be free from war criminals. Speaking on the occasion, Mohammed Nasim said the NCC polls proved once again that people always supported Awami League as a symbol of development.
"The Narayanganj City Corporation polls proved that elections under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and present Election Commission are being held in free, fair and neutral manner," the AL leader said.
