Mushfiqur Rahim sustained hamstring injury on his left leg during the first match of the three-match ODI series against the hosts New Zealand in Christchurch yesterday. After losing top-order batsmen for 81 inside 18 overs, Mushfiqur Rahim appeared in the crease and embarked on a good start with his fellow teammates. He stitched together a string of partnerships before leaving the ground having retired hurt. The wicketkeeper-batsman added 63-run with Shakib Al Hasan for the fifth wicket and 23-run with Sabbir Rahman Rumman for the sixth wicket, while 52-run with Mosaddek Hossain Saikat for the seventh wicket, which crossed the 200-run mark. The diminutive man clouted 42-ball 48 with the help of three boundaries before leaving the ground but he did not come back later. Bangladesh shorter-versions skipper Mashrafe Mortaza regretted Mushfiq’s injury and said that they could have pushed them further in the later overs when they needed to play T20-type chase. “At one stage we needed a T20-type chase, but Mushfiqur got injured. We could have pushed them further in the later overs,” said Mashrafe Bin Mortaza at his post-match briefing. After 48 hours of observation, Mushfiqur Rahim will have a scan on his left hamstring on Tuesday before determining the next course of action. On the cusp of 38th over, Mushfiqur pulled his hamstring while diving to complete a single off Mitchell Santner. On the other hand, Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) National Selection panel chairman Minhajul Abedin Nannu said that they named the same squad of Tigers for the remaining two one day matches against the Black Caps. Nannu also said that he does not know the exact state of Mushfiqur Rahim but they will wait at the final hour of the time line for him.
“I didn’t get a complete report of Mushfiqur Rahim. I am going to New Zealand today’s (Monday) night. I will get to know about his present condition after reaching there,” said Minhajul Abedin. “Unfortunately if anyone becomes unfit especially if Mushfiqur Rahim is unable to play, in that case, we have option in hands. We can pick Nurul Hasan Sohan. But we will take our final decision regarding the rest of one after reaching in New Zealand,” Nannu told newsmen at his residence before leaving for New Zealand.
