Prime accused held over SSC examinee murder
Mymensingh: Police arrested two young men, including the prime accused in a case filed over the killing of SSC examinee Ishtiaque Ahmed Tonmoy from Haluaghat upazila on Sunday night, reports UNB.
The arrestees were identified as Sagor, 21, the prime accused and Ruhan Islam Riyad, 20. Superintendent of Police (SP) of the district Syed Nurul Islam at a press conference on Monday noon said a team of police of Kotowali Model Police Station conducted a drive in the upazila and arrested eight people, including Sagor and Ruhan. Sagor and Ruhan confessed to police they stabbed Tonmoy to death following previous enmity over his relationship with a girl, he said.
Earlier on Friday, Tonmoy, 15, son of Farid Ahmed, an SSC examinee from City Collegiate School in the town, was stabbed to death allegedly by his friends at Ram Babu Road area of the town on Friday evening. Later, his father filed a case against eight people.
15 ‘robbers’ arrested

Detectives arrested 15 suspected robbers from Digarkanda area in Mymensingh Sadar upazila early yesterday.
On information, a team of detective branch (DB) of police raided the area around 1am and arrested nine robbers while they were taking preparation to commit a robbery on Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, said Imarat Hossain Gazi, officer-in-charge (OC) of DB Police, Mymensingh.
Later, following the confessional statement of the arrestees, police also arrested six robbers from different areas of Mymensingh town, said the OC.
They are-Tareq Ahmed, 29, Raju, 22, Rusel, 32, Setu Miah, 22, Al Amin, 25, Bazlu, 32, Shamim, 20, Sabbir Ahmed, 26, Sumon Miah, 22, Al Amin Miah, 21, Masum, 25, Ariful Islam, 22, Md Alamin, 26, Sajol, 18 and Md Sumon, 20.
Police also recovered sharp weapons from their possession. The arrestees were handed over to Kotwali Police Station. They were produced before a Mymensingh court yesterday that sent them to jail.
17 shops gutted by fire
Noakhali: At least 17 shops were gutted by a fire that broke out at Ramganj Bazar in Begumganj upazila on Sunday night, reports UNB.
Humayun Kabir, assistant director of Noakhali Fire Service and Civil Defence, said the fire originated from an electric short circuit at a shop of Ramganj Bazar at about 11.30pm and soon engulfed 16 nearby shops.
Informed, two firefighting units from Maijdee and Chowmuhani fire stations rushed to the spot and doused the flame after two hours of frantic efforts.
