Russel Mahmud Jimmy guided Bangladesh Navy to retain the title of the Victory Day Hockey Championship defeating Bangladesh Army by 3-2 in penalty shoot-out after a hard fought 1-1 draw during the regulation time yesterday.
Roman, Krishna Kumar and Jimmy scored for Navy from the penalty shoot-out whereas Koushik failed.
Shabbir and Milon scored for the Army while Niloy, Nayeem and Mimo failed to convert.
Held at the Maulana Bhashani Hockey Stadium, in the keenly contested match, after a goalless 56 minutes, Khorshedur Rahman led Army led with converting a penalty corner while Jimmy equalised it five minutes before the stipulated 70 minutes in same fashion when the national star also sounded the board from a penalty corner.
After one all draw during the scheduled time, the tie breaker was also locked on 2-2 and Jimmy converted the winning stroke to celebrate the victory of the Victory Day trophy.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Army team was comprised with 15 national stars and Navy had only five national stars.
Jimmy captain of Navy in his post match reaction said, “We are very much excited after wining the title.”
Pushkar Khisha Mimu, one of the national stars of Army said, “It is something disappointing that we could not win match, because having plenty of penalty corners we failed to convert.”
Md Shahriar Alam, State Minister for Foreign Affairs distributed prizes among the winners as the chief guest.
