Abahani Limited celebrated their fifth title of the Bangladesh Professional Football League when they trounced Uttar Baridhara by 4-0 in the JB Bangladesh Premier League football at Bangabandhu National Stadium yesterday.
in the day’s second match, Abahani Limited needed the win against Uttar Baridhara to celebrate the title before their last match to play.
English booter Jonathon David initiated the scoring on 18th minute and substitute Nabib Newaz Jibon doubled the advantage on 58th minute to confirm the victory but Mohammed Emon Mahmud and Faisal Mahmud joined the celebration scoring one goal each.
Abahani had an easy opponents on the day to confirm the fifth championship while the Sky Blues from Dhanmondi won the title of the first three editions in a row of the Professional Football League, kicked off here in 2007.
Abahani on their way to celebrate the title for fifth time out of ninth editions, won 14 matches and drew seven after 21 matches while they still remained unbeaten before one match to play.
Abahani, who played without their two key performers, English play maker Lee Tuck and Nigerian striker Sunday Chizoba, the highest scorer in the league, did not face any trouble to down the lowly Uttar Baridhara.
However, Jonathan, the compatriot of Lee Tuck opened the floodgate on 18th minute when Wali Faisal floated a
left side cross inside the box and Jonathon beat all the defenders with a close range header (1-0).
Baridhara, who are struggling to find the way-out from relegation zone, worked hard to bounce back and also could refrain the title contenders Abahani from increase the margin for about 40 minutes.
But the hat-trick champions, Abahani again came to reopen the scoring through Nabib Newaz Jibon when the substitute sent the ball into near post with a close range header on a Jewel Rana cross on 58th (2-0).
In the last five minutes Abahani scored two goals more to enjoy the party with Emon Mahmud converted a penalty on 85th minute when Baridhara defender Ariful Islam made a bad tackle from behind to Shahed (3-0).
Faisal Mahmud, another substitute closed the account on 87th minute when it was also a good header from the box on a Waly Faisal free kick (4-0).
George Kottan, head coach of the team, who gave compliments to Lee Tuck and Sunday for their important services when in his post match reaction said, “Lee Tuck and Sunday were the main exhilarators of the team's success, they have great contribution to become champions.”
“I am very happy to become champions before a match to play, but we are missing the key performers Lee and Sunday.”

Chittagong Abahani Limited dropped points in the crucial encounter against Muktijoddha Sangsad Krira Chakra after a 1-1 draw in the first match of JB Bangladesh Premier League football yesterday.
Mamunul led Chittagong with a beautiful corner kick and Javed blasted the equaliser for Muktijoddha while both the goals were scored in the early in the second half.
Chittagong Abahani Limited, who appeared this season with huge commitment to win the title, but they narrowly missed and had to remain contain with runners-up position.
