The reserves fund of Bangladesh Inland Water Transport Corporation (BIWTC) stood at Tk 670 crore despite incurring losses in running its fleet, Shipping Minister Shajahan Khan said yesterday.
“The BIWTC has introduced entertainment allowance and scholarship programme for the children of its employees. The organisation has also given
Tk 19.65 lakh as educational scholarship among 582 children who performed well in education between 2009 and 2014,” the minister said while addressing at a function organised by BIWTC officers association at the capital.
Among others, Shipping Secretary Ashok Madhab Roy, BIWTC Chairman Mizanur Rahman, BIWTC Director (admin) Shahidul Islam, Officers Association President Ashikuzzaman and Employees Union President Mohsin Bhuiyan also spoke on the occasion.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has taken various steps to develop the country, Khan said, adding that a vested quarter is trying to obstruct the PM’s journey to development.
