JU wins short film competition 
SAVAR: A short film titled on ‘Living Dolls’ made by Jahangirnagar University (JU) students have placed at first position among 171 films in a short film making competition.
Jahangirnagar Cine Society disclosed it by a press release on Saturday.  Short film ‘Living Dolls’ focuses on child marriage restraint, social violence, freedom of speech against oppression and social limitations.  Nazmus Sakib Rubel, Refat Hasan Shaikat and Armin Trisha and other JU students acted in this film while Mazharul Islam Shaikat and Symmya Islam Kajol captured and directed this film respectively.  However, the winners were handed over trophy, certificates and Tk 50,000 as prizes at Chayanat auditorium by a glittering programme.  Mentionable, under the supervision of Jahangirnagar Cine Society, Risan Ahmed made this film in length of 5 minutes and 32 seconds.  Earlier, Bangladesh Legal Aid and Services Trust (BLAST) organised this short film making competition participated by the university level students.  

UIU students get Humanitarian Impact Award
ANM Nasimunnabi, a final-year student of the Department of Electrical and Electrical Engineering of the United International University (UIU), received the ‘Best Humanitarian Impact Award’ at the IEEE International Women in Engineering (WIE) Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (WIECON-ECE 2016).
    The three-day event began in All India Shivaji Memorial Society’s Institute of Information Technology in Pune in India on December 19. He is the past chair of IEEE UIU Student Branch and currently volunteering as Student Representative for IEEE Bangladesh Section. He is the team leader of the award-winning project ‘Smart Device for Visually Impaired People’ and other contributors of this project are Aman Ullah, Ashikur Rahman and Omiya Hassan – all of them are members of IEEE UIU Student Branch. The project that Nasimunnabi has presented was to assist visually challenged people with audible information about the object and location. A total of 40 humanitarian projects from the Asia-Pacific Region were presented in the Humanitarian Track of the Conference.

SAU Language Club wins cricket tournament
Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University (SAU) Language Club won the champion trophy in the victory day inter-organisation cricket tournament-on Thursday. 
Manabkantha-setubandhan clinched the runner-up title in the contest. The tournament, began on December 17, was held at the central play ground of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University.  Sixteen different cultural, social organisations of Sher-e-Bangla Agricultural University ---SAU Language Club, SAU Debating Society, SAU Photographic Society, SAU Bandhushava, Badhan SAU unit, Bangladesh Study Forum, Nilchithi, SAU Shuvosangho, Kishan Theater, Agri-Rovers, Saptok, Protifolon, SAU Sahitto Sangshod, Swapnashiri, Manabkantha-Setubandhan, SAU YES Group participated the tournament.  A friendship match of women cricket team formed by the members of each cultural, social organisation was held following the final match.  The tournament was arranged by SAU Bandhushava while SAU Photographic Society supported the matches through their unique photography.  SAU Vice-Chancellor Prof Kamal Uddin Ahamed was the chief guest of prize giving ceremony while Prof Md Sekender Ali, pro vice-chancellor of SAU and Prof Md Anwarul Haque Beg, treasurer of SAU were present as the special guest.  Towkir Ahmed Ashik, an all-rounder player of SAU Language Club, achieved man of the tournament trophy.
