RAJSHAHI: Speakers at a post-rally discussion said collective effort has become an urgent need to make all the fertile couples adopt family
planning for the sake of happy and prosperous Bangladesh, reports BSS.
They viewed that there is no way, but to create public awareness about aspects of planned family and that is very important for freeing the nation from the curse of poverty and hunger besides attaining economic emancipation.
Divisional and district offices of the Department of Family Planning organised the discussion in the conference hall of Family Welfare Visitors Training Institute yesterday in observance of the World Population Day-2015.
Commissioner of Rajshahi division Helaluddin Ahmed and Deputy Commissioner Mejbah Uddin Chowdhury addressed the meeting as the chief and special guests respectively with divisional director of the Department of Family Planning SM Zahedul Karim in the chair.
In his welcome speech, deputy director-in-charge of the department Tasiqul Islam Amir Hossain gave an overview of the district level family planning activities and, so far, achievements.
The speakers said the national development activities are being hampered due to the population burden and stressed the need for giving highest priority to the family planning activities.
They laid emphasis on bringing all the fertile couples under the campaign programme through reaching the family planning message to them especially those who live in remotest and underprivileged areas.
Highlighting the necessity of expediting the village-level family planning activities, the speakers underlined the need for giving top priority to motivating the fertile couples so that they could control their unwanted pregnancy through using contraceptives.
“If we can control the unexpected pregnancies in the greater perspective, country’s population could be reduced to a tolerable rate easily,” said Helaluddin Ahmed adding the field level workers should be more careful and attentive to performing their respective duties.
Marking the day, different government and non-government institutions, including Tilottoma Mahila Swechhasebi Pratisthan and individuals were awarded for their laudable contribution to the field. Earlier, a huge rally was brought out from the Greater Road crossing and that paraded some of the thoroughfares before being converged into the meeting venue.
In Gaibandha, speakers at a function said planned and skilled populations are urgent need for ensuring sustainable development of the country and to take the nation ahead as well.
"In this context, importance should be given on reducing rate of unwanted pregnancy and fertility through expediting the field level family planning activities by the employees concerned of government and non-government organisations to a greater extent", they said.
They made the comments while addressing a discussion on celebrating World Population Day organised by Department of Family Planning at the auditorium of Zila Parishad of the town yesterday afternoon.
