Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's son Sajeeb Wazed Joy yesterday congratulated Selina Hayat Ivy, the mayor-elect in the Narayanganj City Corporation polls, for her sweeping win. “Congratulations to Mayor Ivy for winning against the BNP. She bagged 42 per cent of the total vote against the BNP's 29 per cent with voter turnout at a little over 60 per cent,” said Joy, also the ICT affairs adviser to the PM, on his verified Facebook page.
Joy said this was one of the most peaceful elections in Bangladesh. “Even the BNP could not find anything to complain about the election,” he added.
Earlier on Thursday, Ivy, the Awami League candidate, bagged 1,75, 611 votes beating her nearest rival BNP candidate Shakhawat Hossain Khan by 79,567 votes in the polls to the Narayanganj City Corporation.
