2 killed in road accident
Bagerhat: Two local Juba League activists were killed and another was injured as their motorbike hit a roadside tree near Jalchira bridge in Mongla upazila on Thursday night, reports UNB.
The deceased were identified as Kamruzzaman Saikat, 23, son of Shahadat Hossain and Shovon Hossain Babu, 24, son of Alamgir Hossain, a resident of Mongla municipality area. Md Lutfar Rahman, officer-in-charge of Mongla Police Station, said the motorcycle hit the tree after its rider lost control around 11am while they were returning after attending a political programme, marking the Victory Day, leaving three critically injured.
Woman killed in Tangail
Tangail: A woman was beaten to death allegedly by her neighbour over a trifling matter in College Para area of the district town on Thursday, reports UNB.
Quoting witnesses, police said Sumi Akter, 22, wife of Litu Sarkar, a resident of the area, along with her neighbour Rina Begum went to the house of one Shahajadi for watching television in the afternoon.
A scuffle took place between Sumi and Rina over a trifling matter and at one stage Rina along with other women present there beat up Sumi, leaving her critically injured.
She was then taken to Tangail Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead.
Police arrested Rina Begum after a case was filed in this connection.
Bird fair begins in Meherpur
MEHERPUR: A two-day bird fair began at Pouro Community Centre in the town today, reports BSS.  
District administration and district Livestock Department arranged the fair. Principal Farhad Hossein, MP, inaugurated it.  “We should take initiatives to protect our natural resources by caring our nature” said Farhad Hossein.“Animals help us to protect our eco-system” he added.  Some 28 stalls have been set up at the fair which will continue till tomorrow evening.

Blankets distributed in Jamalpur

JAMALPUR: The upazila administrations of the district distributed 39,576 pieces of blankets among the cold-hit poor people in seven upazilas, reports BSS.
According to District Relief and Rehabilitation Office, of the blankets 5,401 in Dewanganj, 6,599 in Islampur, 7,018 in Jamalpur sadar, 5,045 in Madarganj, 5,965 in Melandaha, 5,109 in Sarishabari and 4,439 pieces in Bakshiganj upazila were distributed.
Sources said 46,485 pieces of blankets were allotted in the district for distribution among the cold hit poor people. Allotted 20,600 blankets are from Prime Minister’s Relief fund and 25,885 blankets are from Relief and Disaster Management Department.
