Women reps should gain empowerment, say speakers

Speakers here have said the elected women public representatives in reserved seats of the Local Government Institutions (LGIs) should raise their voice with logic for elevating their working capacity, reports BSS.
They added that the public representatives should develop their capacity and strengthen decision-making capacities as they have vital role to supplementing the government endeavors.
LGIs women should have knowledge about policy and politics particularly in the area of governance so that they can contribute accordingly.
They were addressing a view-sharing meeting with local level policy implementing agencies and women public representatives at Tanore Upazila Parishad Hall Room in the district on Thursday.
Prip Trust under a project titled ‘Aparajita: Political Empowerment of Women’ the organized the meeting styled “Prospects, Challenges and Recommendations of Women Public Representatives and other Possible Women Leaders” discussing ways and means on how to attain the cherished goal.Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) supported the meeting.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Shawkat Ali and Assistant Commissioner (Land) Nilufar Yeasmin addressed the meeting as chief and special guests respectively with Upazila Vice chairman Bondona Rani Pramanik in the chair.
Upazila Vice-chairman Abdur Rahim, Union Parishad Chairmen Abdul Matin and Ataur Rahman and Prip Trust Programme Officer Azizur Rahman also spoke.
During her concept paper presentation, Chanduria UP Member Ferdousi Begum said they should have equal opportunity in decision making and accepted as full-time workers not as token women so that they can work for welfare of the community like alternative dispute resolution independently.Ferdousi Begum observed that overall development of the community couldn’t be possible until the womenfolk especially the elected ones were empowered politically and socially.
