Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid yesterday urged the engineers of Education Engineering Department (EED) to be creative and ensure transparency and accountability in the construction of structures for educational institutions, saying no corruption and irregularity will be tolerated, reports UNB. “The EED engineers must be sincere and honest in their work. You can’t waste public money. Corruption or misappropriation won’t be tolerated at all,” he told a views-exchange meeting at the International Mother Language Institute auditorium.
The Education Minister said the young generation, who will lead the nation in the future, will study in the educational institutions the EED engineers construct.
So, he said, designs of the buildings must be appropriate to make those beautiful and safe. “You should be careful in this regard.”
Nahid asked the engineers to prepare master plans of structures considering the overall environment before going to start any construction work.
He said the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) has already approved a Tk 338-crore project for the development of the department.
Under the project, a 15-storey building will be built in the capital for the department, and EED buildings will be constructed in 32 districts, the Education Minister said.
