PTI, Kolkata: In a bid to bolster the golfing scenario in Bangladesh, the Professional Golf Tour of India for the first time will have two events in the neighbouring country next year.
This was an outcome of a meeting between PGTI and the Bangladesh Professional Golfers’ Association general secretary Brig Gen Quamrul lslam who is here on the sidelines of the season-ending McLeod Russel Tour Championship at the RCGC yesterday. “We are expanding golf in Bangladesh in a big way and it’s an extraordinary achievement for BPGA. We expect all the top players sans number one Anirban Lahiri to compete in the two tournaments,” Islam told the news agency.
The first event will be held at the Kurmitola Golf Club in Dhaka from February 27-March 2, while the scenic Bhatiary Golf & Country Club in Chittagong will host the second one from March 28-31, he said. “I’m thankful for the support provided by the PGTI. We have increased the prize money to Rs 40 lakh,” he said.
In March, PGTI had a BTI Open 2016 in Dhaka which was won by Mohammad Siddikur Rahman as the country also hosted the USD 300,000 Asian Tour event, Bashundhara Bangladesh Open in June. He further said the BPGA is planning to conduct 14 Bangladesh Tour events by the end of the season in June.
