Bangladesh have strongly placed to finish among top two teams in the Bangabandhu Asian Men’s Senior Central Zone Volleyball Championship. The home team thrashed Nepal by straight 3-0 sets in their second win at the Shaheed Suhrawardy Indoor Stadium in the capital yesterday. Bangladesh took a little over an hour to outplay Nepal 25-22, 25-20, 25-23 to post their second win in as matches. Earlier they defeated Afghanistan in their first match on Thursday.
The hosts will now take on Kyrgyzstan in their third robin league match tomorrow at 4pm. If Bangladesh can beat Kyrgyzstan. They will become the first team to book a final berth.
With thunderous cheering and clapping all Bangladeshi spikers did their best to snatch the victory. Speccially, Bangladesh captain Sayed Al Zabir with his aggressive from won the player of the match award for the second successive match. Earlier, strong contenders for the title Kyrgyzstan took some time to settle in the match as they initially came from behind to down Afghanistan by 3-1 sets in their maiden encounter at the same venue. Afghanistan, who were beaten by Bangladesh in the very first match of the tournament, snatched the initial domination before winning the first set at 25-22. Kyrgyzstan soon regrouped them and won the next two sets at 25-17, 25-20. The fourth set was a keenly contested one as at one stage the two teams levelled the score 20-20. Finally the spirited Kyrgyzstan clinched the fourth set at 25-22 to make a winning start in the five-nation tournament.
