Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chowdhury yesterday said the students of law departments across the country are making significant contributions to taking the nation forward, repots BSS. The Speaker was addressing as the chief guest the 31st annual conference of Bangladesh Law Association (BLA) on Science Annex premises of Dhaka University.
Dr Shirin, also the Chairperson of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA), said the former students of the law departments are working for the country from different fields, including judiciary, enacting of law, and administration.
The Speaker urged the law department students to take realistic lessons side by side with academic education to cope with the competitive global scenario.
Terming Bangladesh as a role model of development, Dr Shirin urged all engaged in legal profession to work together for turning Bangladesh into a middle income country by 2021 under the dynamic leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. Chaired by BLA President Dr Khan Mohammad Abdul Mannan, the conference was addressed, among others, by State Minister for Labour and Manpower Advocate M Mujibul Haq Chunnu, State Minister for Posts and Telecommunications Advocate Tarana Halim, Hosneara Begum MP, Molla Mohammad Abu Kawsar and Dhaka University Alumnae Association President AK Azad. Earlier, Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor (VC) Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the conference.
