AL, BNP laud NCC polls

Leaders of both the ruling Awami League and the BNP have termed yesterday’s election held in Narayanganj City Corporation (NCC) as fair and agreed to accept the verdict of the people. Awami League General Secretary and Road Transport and Bridges Minister Obaidul Quader said the government’s commitment to hold the NCC polls in a free, fair and neutral manner has been implemented properly as the NCC polls has created a new record in holding a peaceful election.
“This election has created a new record for ‘peaceful election’,” the AL general secretary said while speaking at a press conference at the party President Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmondi political office.
All speculations relating to the third force and election conflict has been proved baseless and false, he noted. The AL leader lauded the people of Narayanganj and the Election Commission officials and others involved for gifting the country a free, fair and peaceful election.
“The Election Commission has proved its capacity by holding this free, fair and neutral election and conducting the NCC polls peacefully,” Quader noted.
Meanwhile, soon after the voting ended in the NCC election, BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed in a press briefing at the party’s Nayapaltan central office in Dhaka said, “We will accept reflection of people’s verdict if nothing takes place behind the scene.” The BNP leader, however, said that election rigging can take place at any moment. “The Election Commission and the local administration will have to remain cautious about this as many things can be done behind the scene,” Rizvi added.  Earlier, at 11.00am and 1.00pm, Rizvi in separate press briefings, said that the environment of election is normal and the polling is being held apparently in a fair manner.
