Total 15 projects worth Tk 26,410.81 crore approved

ECNEC okays Tk 9123cr project 
to improve primary education

The Executive Committee of National Economic Council (ECNEC) yesterday approved 15 development projects, involving a total of Tk 26,410.81 crore, including two big projects to ensure infrastructural development of primary schools across the country.

The projects are –“Demand base government primary school development project (1st phase)” involving Tk 9123.85 crore and “Demand 
base new nationalized primary school development project (1st phase)” involving Tk 5740.59 crore.     
The approval came from the ECNEC meeting at the NEC Conference Room in the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar with ECNEC Chairperson and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the chair.
Briefing reporters after the meeting, Planning Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said that a total of 15 projects were approved yesterday with an estimated cost of Tk 26,410.81 crore.
“Of the total project cost, government will provide Tk 22,078.77 crore from the national exchequer while the organisations concerned will contribute Tk 384.64 crore from their own funds and the remaining Tk 3,947.40 crore will come as project assistance,” said planning minister.
Kamal said the meeting approved the demand-based government primary school development project involving Tk 9,123.85 crore and newly nationalised government primary school development project involving Tk 5,740.59 crore to construct 65 thousand classrooms across.
The government is implementing the projects to ensure quality education for fulfilling the number four targets of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), he added.
He said Rajshahi University physical infrastructure project has also got ECNEC approval with a cost of Tk 363.87 crore. It also approved strengthening of education engineering authority project involving Tk 363.87 crore. Rajshahi hi tech park establishment project will be implemented at a cost of Tk 238.25 crore, he said, adding that the meeting also approved a project to build permanent concrete bridges to replace risky bridges under Munshiganj Roads Authority involving Tk 147.82 crore
Of the approved 15 projects, 10 are new while five are revised ones.
The other approved projects are “Strengthening education engineering directorate through establishing the head quarter and district offices” at cost of Tk 383.12 crore; “Construction of Bangabandhu Military Musuam” at cost of Tk 276 crore; “Establishment of Bangbandhu Silicon City” at cost of Tk 238.25 crore; “Construction and expansion of visually impaired children” at cost of Tk 60.66 crore; “Construction of Chittagong City Outer Ring Road (Patenga to Sagorika)” at cost of Tk 2426.15 crore; “Supply of water in 37 districts” at cost of Tk 899 crore;  “Construction of link road from Dhaka truck road to Baizid Bostami including loop road of along with Asian University for Woman” at cost of Tk 320.04 crore; “Construction of RCC retaining wall beside 11 streams inside of Sylhet city corporation” at cost of Tk 236.40 crore; “Construction of permanent concrete bridge instead of risky bailey bridges under Munshiganj road division” at cost of Tk 147.82 crore; “Climate victim rehabilitation 1st phase” at cost of Tk 981.81 crore; “National Information and Communication technology infrastructure development (Info Sarkar 3rd phase) “at cost Tk 1999.49 crore; and establishment of Khulna 330 MW dual fuel combined cycle power plant at cost of Tk 325.76 crore.
