RAJSHAHI: Taking part in a discussion here health officials, development activists and other stakeholders unequivocally called for modern and adequate safe treatment facilities towards the drug addicts for their rehabilitation as drug and alcohol addiction is a very serious disease, reports BSS.
They mentioned addiction can tear families and destroy lives. The people who inject drugs and suffer from addiction need a great deal of professional help to overcome this disease. Drug addiction and HIV/AIDS are interlinked. So, there is no alternative to concerted efforts.
They demanded launching opioid substitution treatment through methadone method here for the drug addicts for sake of their quick recovery.
They were addressing a daylong ‘Advocacy Workshop with Relevant Departments and Stakeholders on Programme Coverage and Drugs Treatment Gaps among People who Inject Drugs in Rajshahi’ held in office conference hall of Divisional Director of Health on Tuesday.
Ashokta Punarbashan Sangstha (APOSH) and Care Bangladesh Consortium (CBC) jointly organised the workshop discussing ways and means on how to provide safe treatment to the drug addicts.
With Divisional Director of Health Dr Abdus Sobhan in the chair, Additional Director of Department of Drugs and Narcotics Control Mujibur Rahman Patwari and Superintendent of Chest Disease Hospital Dr Amir Hossain addressed the workshop as chief and special guests respectively.
Editor of Daily Sonar Desh Akbarul Hassan Millat, APOSH Chairman Mustafizur Rahman and its Executive Director Abul Bashar Paltu also spoke.
