Health Minister Mohammad Nasim on Wednesday said the government will construct a 1,000-bed cancer hospital in the country, which will be an international standard one, reports BSS.
“As per directives of the Prime Minister, we have already started work on setting up of the hospital,” he said at a discussion in the capital.
The Health Minister said a Chinese delegation will soon come to the country to conduct assessment on hospital construction, and the government will welcome both local and international entrepreneurs in this regard.
The discussion was arranged at the National Institute of Cancer Research & Hospital, Mohakhali, marking the Victory Day.
State Minister for Health Jahed Malek, director general of the Health Directorate Prof Abul Kalam Azad and Cancer Institute director Prof Mosharraf Hossain, among others, spoke at the discussion.
Speaking as the chief guest, Nasim said industrialists and businessmen should come forward in ensuring free healthcare facility to the country’s poor people.
“If they (industrialists and businessmen) provide support to hospitals in setting up wards or procuring equipment, the poor people will be benefited,” he said.
The Health Minister called upon physicians, nurses and hospital staff to provide optimum healthcare facility to people.
