Noted directors, playwrights being commemorated at Shilpakala

In memory of late film directors, playwrights and ‘jatra’ artistes, Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy (BSA) has organised a four-day commemorative programme titled ‘Smrity Satta Bhabishyat-2’ featuring seminars, film screening, and staging of plays and jatra. Beginning from December 19, the commemorative programme would continue till tomorrow at the Studio Theatre Hall of the BSA at Segun Bagicha in the capital.
Today, in memory of late film director Alamgir Kabir, Dr Sabrina Sultana Chowdhury will present a paper and the programme will be attended by Munira Morshed Munni as a discussant. Bidhan Biberu will present a paper in memory of Chashi Nazrul Islam and that part will be attended by Josna Kazi as a discussant.
On the other hand, Mohammad Azam will present a paper in memory of playwright-director Humayun Ahmed and the session will be attended by Mazharul Islam as a discussant. After the discussion, a session of film screening will also be held at 8 tonight.
During yesterday’s sessions, Dr Masud Reza presented a paper in memory of Subhash Dutta, while Belayet Hossain Mamun and Abir Shrestha Sibi Zaman presented papers respectively in memory of Badal Rahman and Khan Ataur Rahman. Yesterday, Masihuddin Shaker presided over the entire session.
Earlier, on December 19, BSA Director General Liaquat Ali Lucky inaugurated the four-day commemorative programme ‘Smrity Satta Bhabishyat-2’. Badrul Alam Bhuiyan, Director of Drama and Film Department of the BSA, delivered the welcome speech at the inaugural ceremony.
