RAJSHAHI: Addressing a discussion here administrative officials and development activists mentioned leadership training is very important for making the grassroots youths enlighten, responsive and social contributor, reports BSS. They viewed flourishing leadership and capacity building among youths is the precondition to turn them worthy citizens that is crucial for freeing the society from various social crimes and gender discrimination.
The observation came in the opening session of a four-day ‘Active Citizens and Youth Leadership Training’ at Charghat Upazila Parishad auditorium in the district on Monday.
The Hunger Project Bangladesh (THPB), a non-government organization, organized the training in association with British Council with the main thrust of making 32 youths both boys and girls aware and capable on how to build life and to contribute to the society as a whole.
Upazila Nirbahi Officer Abdus Samad addressed the opening session as chief guest saying the youths need training on transparency, accountability and citizenship relating to the activities of the local life related issues for grooming up their latent knowledge on the issues.
Time has come to generate more and more youth leaders in the society for making them time-fitting social actor to free the society from various crimes and malpractices like drug-addiction.
Terming the young generation as a vital power for the nation, he viewed they must be built as worthy citizens through enhancing their level of confidence.
THPB Area Coordinator Subrata Kumar Paul narrated aims and objectives of the course during his welcome address. Active Citizen Facilitators Jannatun Nessa Sharmin, Kaosar Billah, Mustafizur Rahman and Ashraful Islam Sarker also spoke. Subrata Kumar Paul said the initiative has been taken to engage the students towards democratic activities through their active and effective participation for strengthening capacity of professional skills. There is no alternative to generate community leadership from among the students to take forward the nation successfully and that is very important to bring a qualitative change everywhere in the society.
