BNP yesterday alleged that there could be no free, fair and impartial election in the country under the Awami League-led government and all those signs are now getting clear ahead of Narayanganj City Corporation polls, reports UNB.
“We’ve come to know from media reports that around 300 terrorists backed by the ruling party are roaming around the election areas in Narayanganj. Preparations are underway to create an anarchic situation there with the knowledge of the local administration,” he said.
The BNP leader came up with the allegations while speaking at a press briefing at BNP’s Nayapaltan central office.
He also alleged that the Election Commission (EC) has imposed a restriction on carrying out electioneering by outsiders 72 hours before the polling only to prevent BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia from carrying out electioneering in favour of her party’s mayoral candidate Shakhawat Hossain Khan.
Referring to the EC notification issued imposing restriction on ‘outsiders’, Rizvi said it is a un-parliamentarian, indecent and non-political word.
“As citizens of Bangladesh, we’ve the right to go anywhere in the country. We think the Commission using the word ‘outsider’ has insulted the entire nation and the country’s voters,” he observed. Rizvi said they have information that
the ruling party-armed cadres are making their positions in the election areas terrorising the voters ahead of the voting.
The BNP leader urged the EC to take proper steps to remove fear from voters’ minds and ensure an atmosphere for holing a free and fair election.
