In the wake of the combined spin and pace attack of Khulna Division, table-toppers Barisal Division scored 171 for all-out on the close of the day one of the fourth round of the Tier-1 in the National Cricket League (NCL) at Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Prothisthan (BKSP) ground-3 yesterday.
At Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium, Dhaka Metro managed to score 166 against Dhaka Division in the other match of Tier-1.
In Tier-2, Rangpur Division accumulated 315 for seven against Chittagong Division at Sylhet International Cricket Stadium.
Elsewhere at the Shaheed Chandu Stadium in Borga, Rajshahi Division garnered 204 against Sylhet Division.
Khulna vs Barisal
Opted to bat, Barisal Division fell into Khulna’s strong pace assault. Seamer Al Amin Hossain gave them the first breakthrough removing opener Abu Sayeem. Then Ziaur Rahman sent back Shahriar Nafees cheaply. Debutant Ashikur Rahman created a havoc much when he got rid of and Salman Hossain and Al Amin Junior while Barisal were stuttering at 55 for four.
Skipper Fazle Mahmud patiently made an effort to steady the innings but he did not get ably support from others as wickets were stumbling at regular interval on the other end. In the space of eight runs, Al Amin Hossain made Sohag Gazi to his second prey and Bishawnath Halder victimized Monir Hossain to increase the fuss further.
Before being dismissed, Fazle Mahmud hit a couple of partnerships en route to his 95. He shared 49-run for the seventh wicket with Shahin Hossain and 41-run for the eighth wicket with Saleh Ahmed Shawon. Mahmud finally clubbed 14 fours and one six in his patient 150-ball 95.
Ziaur Rahman and Ashikur Rahman picked up three wickets each, while Al Amin Hossain and Bishawnath Halder snapped up two wickets apiece for Khulna.
In reply, Khulna Division put on 101-1 with Mahedi Hasan making an unbeaten 55 and Anamul Haque scoring 15. Hasanuzzaman fell for 23.
Metro vs Dhaka
Dhaka Division selected to field after winning the toss and justified their decision as they halted Metro’s progress to paltry 166. In-form Mohammad Sharif and Nazmul Islam Apu shared most of the wickets between them. Sharif, who bowled well for Comilla Victorians in BPL, scalped four wickets for 35 and Apu, who also bowled quite well for Rajshahi Kings, hauled three wickets for 46.
Shadman Islam Anik made the highest 47 for Dhaka Metro. Mohammad Ashraful, who made a come back in cricket after three-year domestic suspension for match-fixing scam in BPL, slammed the second best of 39.
Mehrab Hossain Junior (22), Shykat Ali (17) and Shamsur Rahman (14) also contributed for Metro.
Dhaka Division in reply made 19 for two with Minhaz Khan (8) and Rakibul Hasan (2) were batting.
Chittagong vs Rangpur
Chittagong Division skipper Irfan Sukkur invited Rangpur Division to bat first after winning the toss but they could not capitalise the opportunity as the latter made a solid start through their openers-Saymon Ahmed and Liton Kumar Das. The duo hit 66 before breaking their partnership. Saymon fell for 22.
Later Liton tried to stretch the total with his team fellows and smashed a couple of partnerships including 54-run for the second stand with Mahmudul Hasan, who chipped in with 22.
Before being caught out, Liton Das clouted 73 off 90 with 13 fours. Together with skipper Naeem Islam, Nasir Hossain hereafter attempted to elongate the innings but both trudged back to the pavilion having caught while Rangpur were struggling at 190-6. Naeem went for 22 while Nasir made 30.
This time Suhrawardi Shuvo partnered with Ariful Haque and stitched together 112-run for the seven wicket stand, which crossed the 300-run mark. Ariful clattered two sixes and three fours in his 74-ball 52.
Shuvo clobbered nine fours to be remained unbeaten on 62 off 105. Alauddin Babu was on six not out.
Hossain Ali claimed three wickets, whereas Mohammad Saifuddin bagged two wickets for Chittagong.
Rajshahi vs Sylhet
Rajshahi Division put in to bat first and made a worse start due to pacer Abu Jayed Rahi, who was the main wrecker of Rajshahi’s innings. Abu Jayed Rahi, who played for Dhaka Dynamites in BPL was remained in discussion for his aggressive wicket-taking intent, took the bulk of the six wickets for 48. The pacer removed Myshukur Rahman for naught. Since then, the batters tried to widen
the scoring but could not make it as wickets were falling at regular basis. Farhad Hossain top-scored for Rajshahi with 35.
Minzanur Rahman (32), Muktar Ali (29), Zunaid Siddique (26), Hamidul Islam (21) and Sunzamul Islam (20) were the other contributors for Rajshahi.
Sylhet Division in reply scored 43 for two with Sayem Alam crafting 30. In-form Forhad Reza, who also performed better for Rajshahi Kings in BPL, grabbed the fallen two wickets.
