Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury yesterday called upon the member of parliaments to increase their engagement in social activities to help attain the sustainable development goals by 2030, reports BSS.
"Member of parliament should play an important role to attain the sustainable development goals by increasing their engagement with different social works including prevention of child marriage, development of maternal health and ensuing safe maternity and development of youths," she said. The speaker was addressing a meeting of Bangladesh Association of Parliamentarians on Population and Development which was formed under Strengthening Parliament's Capacity in Integrating Population Issues Into Development project of Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad.
Chaudhury said opinions of parliament members in state activities are considered as important in the entire world.
She said opinions of parliament members in any social issue are very important as they make public relations regularly through different meetings, discussions, seminars and symposiums. Parliament Whips Mahbub Ara Begum Gini and Md Shahb Uddin and Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Children Affairs Ministry Rebeka Momin joined the function, among others.
