Int'l Model UN Conference begins at DU
A four-day "International Model United Nations Conference" began on Monday at Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban auditorium on Dhaka University (DU) campus in the capital.
DU Vice-chancellor Professor Dr AAMS Arefin Siddique inaugurated the conference as the chief guest with Secretary General of the conference Ashabul Mahmud in the chair.
Securing the theme "Embarking SDG Implementation for peaceful coexistence", the Dhaka University Model United Nations Association (DUMUNA) organised the conference, a DU press release said. The function was addressed, among others, by DU Pro-VC (Academic) Professor Dr Nasreen Ahmad, Professor Dr Delwar Hossain of DU International Relations Department and former Officer-in-Charge of United Nations Information Centre in Bangladesh Kazi Ali Reza. Professor Siddique said, "We have witnessed successful implementation of millennium development goals and now we are on our way to implement sustainable development goals under the direct supervision and guidance of the United Nations". About 500 youths and students from different countries of the world including Bangladesh, the USA, the UK, South Korea, India, Nepal, Afghanistan, the Philippines and Indonesia took part in the conference.

JU, US university sign MoU
To establish a cooperative relationship as well as enhancing the opportunities of both undergraduates and post-graduate students in Bangladesh and USA, a memorandum of understanding was signed between Jahangirnagar University (JU) and Saginaw Valley State University (SVSU) at JU, says a press release yesterday. 
In presence of JU Vice-chancellor Prof Dr Farzana Islam, JU Treasurer Abul Khair on behalf of JU and Marc Pertz, Associate Provost for International and Advanced Studies on behalf SVSU signed the memorandum in a simple ceremony at JU VC office. On behalf of JU, Dr Mohammad Kamrul Ahsan and Dr Brian Thomas, for SVSU will conduct the associated programmes regarding these agreements. From now, both JU and SVSU will make available their information on international admission policies and procedures and will facilitate as necessary communication between staff members associated with international admissions resulting this agreements. 

Bird fair at JU on January 6 
Zoology Department of Jahangirnagar University (JU) in collaboration with World Life Rescue Centre, Bangladesh Bird Club and Aronnok Foundation will organise Bird Fair-2017 on January 6. 
Associate Professor of Zoology department and also the convener of Bird Fair-2017 organising committee Dr Md. Kamrul Hasan disclosed this event at a press conference yesterday evening.  The day long programme includes inter university bird identification competition, decoration of stalls competition, speech competition, bird painting competition for children, watching migratory birds in different spot by telescope for children, quiz competition, discussion and cultural session relating to bird at the end of the day.  Vice -chancellor Prof Dr Farzana Islam likely to inaugurate the fair on that day.  JU Zoology department have been organising such type of fair since 2011 with a view to raising mass awareness about preserving birds. 

Seminar on scholarship opportunities at Sichuan University held in capital
Sichuan University (SCU), one of China’s top universities, organised a daylong spot admission fair and a seminar on scholarship opportunities at Krishibid Institution Bangladesh (KIB) in the capital yesterday, says a press release.
The programme started from 10am and continued till 4pm. Director of the Overseas Student Office Gaojian was present as the chief guest. Programme Coordinator of the office Luo Xun was present as the special guest. At the seminar the guests talked about China’s BELT and ROAD initiative and how it’s helping Asian students to get more lucrative scholarships. Over 100 scholarships and special waiver on tuition fee for all major subjects were on offer for meritorious students.
SCU is offering scholarships based bachelor courses in Software, Engineering, Civil Engineering, Tourism Culture and Management, International Business Management, China studies, Information Security, Business Analytics, Public Management, Energy and Environment, Chinese Economy, Medical Informatics and Engineering. For Masters programmes, MA in Civil Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science and Tourism Management are on offer. Moreover, PhD applicants can apply to study in Civil Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Science, and Tourism Management. MalishaEdu is the sole agent of Sichuan University. Badminton Tournament ends at BAU
The final match and prize giving ceremony of ‘Bijoy Dibosh Badminton Tournament-2016’ ended at Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) in Mymensingh on Monday night, says a press release.
Bangladesh Agricultural University Journalists’ Association (BAUJA) organised the tournament at the association’s playground in front of the Teacher Student Centre (TSC) on the campus. In final match, the ‘Bijoyer Shitolokkha’ team of Amit Malaker (Somoy Protidin) and Musfiqur Rahman Sifat (Daily Observer) won against the ‘Uttal Jamuna’ of Md. Hatem Ali (New Age) and Abul Bashar Meraz (Kalerkantho) by 2-1 set. Md. Hatem Ali was awarded man of the tournament. A total seven teams, formed with the members of BAUJA, took part in the tournament. BAU Vice- chancellor Prof Dr Md Ali Akbar distributed prizes attending the programme as the chief guest while president of BAUJA Md Hatem Ali chaired the programme. BAU Proctor Prof Dr AKM Zakir Hossain attended the programme as the special guest. Assistant proctor Prof Dr Mohammed Al Mamun and Prof Dr Azharul Islam, assistant director of Public Relations and Publications, also the owner of the champion team ‘Bijoyer Shitolokkha’ Din Mohammed Dinu were also present in the prize giving ceremony, among others.
