One killed in Tangail road crash

A pickup van driver was killed as his vehicle collided head-on with a bus in Analiabari area on the Tangail-Bangabandhu Bridge highway under Kalihati upazila of the district yesterday morning, reports BSS.
The deceased was Muksedul Alam, 32, resident of Uria area under Phulchhari Thana in Gaibandha district.
Officer-in-Charge of Bangabandhu Bridge East Thana Asabur Rahman said the accident occurred when a wood-laden pickup van collided head on with the bus in the area at about 8 am, leaving pickup van driver Alam dead on the spot and four others injured.
The injured were sent to Tangail Medical College Hospital.
Indian national held in Jessore
Jessore: Police arrested an Indian citizen from Niribilipara in Chowgachha upazila on Sunday night on charges of smuggling, reports UNB.
The arrestee was identified as Ayub Ali Biswas, 40, hailing from Kulnandapur area under Baghda thana in North 24 Pargana district of India. Jamal Uddin, sub-inspector of Chowgachha Police Station, said a team of police conducted a drive in the house of one Khalilur Rahman in the area around 9.30pm and arrested Ayub along with drugs and a sack of smuggled Indian shoes.
3 food shops fined in Natore
NATORE: A mobile court today fined three bakery shops in Bagatipara upazila of the district Taka 1.60 lakh for preparing, possessing and selling foods in an unhygienic condition, reports BSS.
On a tip-off, a team of RAB-5 conducted a drive in Malonchi area of the upazila and arrested the owners of the shops. The shop owners were later produced before a court.
Executive magistrate Khandokar Farhad Ahamed fined the shop owners for violating the existing law of BSTI. The team also destroyed 320-kg bakery products.
34 arrested in Satkhira
SATHKHIRA: Police, in special drives from Sunday night to this morning, arrested 34 people on various charges from seven upazilas of the district, reports BSS.
Sources with the district police said they were picked up from different areas of the district.
During the drives ,Satkhira Sadar police arrested 15 people, Kalaroa police five, Tala police three, Kaliganj police four, Shyamnagar police two, Assasuni police three, Debhata police one and Patkelghata police arrested one accused, the sources said.
Several cases, including charges of subversive activities, are pending with different police stations against the arrested persons, the sources added. The arrested were sent to jail this morning.
Unidentified body recovered
Jhenidah: Police recovered an unidentified body
from Bolidapara in Kaliganj upazila on Sunday afternoon, reports UNB.
Bishwajit, sub-inspector of Kaliganj Police Station, said locals spotted the body in front of Bolidapara Kaji Office adjacent of Jessore-Kaliganj road around 4.30am and informed police. Later police recovered the body. The body bore marks of injury on its neck.
