Gold medal winners Mabia Akhter Simanta and Jahura Akhter Reshma got death threats after their arrival at home Sunday evening.
Bangladesh Weightlifting Federation (BWF) general secretary Moqbul Hossain said, “He had no information about the death threats of Mabia and Reshma.
Moqbul, while talking to this correspondent said, “We are pleased with their achievement but they did not go there following proper procedure. They should go with the official permission.”
“I don’t know about death threat, they did not inform us, if anything would happen and we know this then we will take necessary action.”
Mabia and Reshma, who won gold medals in 63-kg and 53-kg
weight category respectively in the Invitational Weightlifting competition held in Qatar capital Doha returned home on Sunday but some unknown person threatened them over telephone.
It can be mentioned that Mabia and Reshma participated in the competition without the permission of BWF.
President of the BWF expressed his happiness for their achievement but the general secretary did not like to agree that it was not known to them whether there was any international weightlifting competition was held.
