Chenchu Gyeltshen of Bhutan struck twice as Chittagong Abahani Limited trounced Team BJMC by 3-0 in the JB Bsangladesh Premier League football yesterday.
Held at the Bangabandhu National Stadium, in the day’s first match, the Ports City led the first half with the Bhutanese striker found the net twice. Ibrahim increased the margin after the breather to bring an important win.
After winning the match, Chittagong Abahani Limited pushed their tally to 43 points to close the gap with the league leaders Abahani Limited who are on top with 46.
Both the Abahani, Dhaka and from Port City left two matches to play but the former is in an advantageous position as they will have comparatively weaker opponents than the latter.
However, on the day, Chenchu opened his account in the very fourth minute with a gifted goal when an ordinary effort from the Bhutanese striker on a Rubel cross slept the BJMC goalkeeper Himel before crossing the goal line (1-0).
Chenchu scored his second and his fourth from six matches in the league at the dying minute before going for break and this time he comfortably pushed the ball into net from closer to goal line after being fully unmarked (2-0).
Ibrahim confirmed the win on 66th minute and this time goalkeeper Himel failed to stop a Chenchu strong shot and Ibrahim rushed to head home (3-0).
Team BJMC earned 21 points from 20 encounters with four wins nine draws.
