Bulbul tells Tigers to stay positive

Bangladesh former skipper Aminul Islam Bulbul describes the tour of New Zealand as a biggest challenge for Bangladesh, stating that they have possibility of winning match or matches in New Zealand condition though it will be difficult for them.

“I think we have of course hopes of winning match or matches. If you look at the last World Cup performance you’ll get to see we were almost in winning position against New Zealand at their home condition. It will be a biggest confidence for us,” said Aminul Islam.
“Other thing is that our one day team is a solid team. If our Mustafiz could come back to be fit along with that we have those batsmen, who are almost in-form, could perform their best then we have a chance to bring out the result for us,” Bulbul told media.
“It’s a great advantage for us that most of the teams play with five batsmen, an all-rounder and four bowlers but we have seven batsmen, who could bat well. We have two extra batsmen than others. The opponent does not make their plan for the extra batsmen. So, there remains a chance for us to bring out the match’s result,” he added.
Big guns have to toil hard to cope with New Zealand at their home turf due to the diversified trend of the wickets and conditions, where altitude is a biggest obstacle besides the other barriers.
Hamilton is flat ground and Christchurch is a high ground, whereas Napier lies beside the sea, where cool and windy weather may attest the ground at any time. So the former skipper said that their experienced players could play a vital role to do fare well despite having so many barriers.
“There is a matter of altitude in every ground. Hamilton is flat ground, Christchurch is a high ground and Napier is beside the sea. Altitude will be a great factor. South Islands is called the gate of Antarctica. Abruptly cool weather may arrive,” the right-handed batsman said, adding “But we have some experienced players in the side. Imrul hit hundred in Christchurch. So, we have experience along with confidence. Inshallah, we will do better in New Zealand.”
He said that they will be benefited in Test from their experienced players and the gathered ideas what they will get from the one day and T20 series prior to the Test series.
“We could get advantage from two ways. Firstly, we have some players, who have experience to play 100-200 one day matches. Even we have some players, who played 50-60 Test matches. We have experience. We have confidence what we gathered since last one and-half-a-year. Secondly we will start with 50-50 and 20-20 matches. We could take a good preparation prior to the Test series,” the 48-year-old campaigner thinks.
Bulbul, who is now busy in development works of ICC and ACC, said that their pre-tour preparation is not enough to play the series against New Zealand though the conditioning camp in Australia will be somewhat helpful for them.
“Actually preparation was not better for us. Because I’ll say that there is no similarity with the condition what we will actually play in New Zealand. We played T20 at home. We played a couple of practice games in T20 in Australia. So I think our players have pick performance stage or intelligence more in T20 games. In T20, we normally try to hit every ball but in Test we try to stop-drop-hit the ball as much as possible. I think it would be a challenge,” he said.
“New Zealand on the other hand will not keep any similarity with the wickets of one day to T20 to Test matches. Our challenge will be bigger in that place. We have to take a big challenge to manage these things,” he also said.
When asked about wickets in New Zealand, Bulbul said that the wickets in New Zealand is highbred, which is the combination of England and Australian wickets.
“Except Napier, balls will be moved at every ground. The trend of the wickets in New Zealand is different, where every team comes back with failure. They have a wicket which is combined of England and Australia. We see the nature of English wicket is grassy but swing and Australian wicket is bouncy. The ball will bounce and swing in New Zealand wickets but it would be difficult more if there is overcast condition,” Aminul, who struck the first Test century for Bangladesh, said.
