2 women crushed under truck in city
Two women were crushed under a truck at Dipitir Goli of Purba Dholaipar area in the capital on Sunday night.
The deceased were identified as Sumona, 23, and her sisiter-in-law Farzana Akhter, 17.
Krishnadas Boiragi, sub-inspector of Shyampur Police Station, said the truck ran over Sumona and Farzana in the area around 10pm while they were returning to their house from their workplace, leaving Farzana dead on the spot and Sumona critically injured.
Later the injured was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared her dead.
Body of teenager found
Police recovered the dismembered body of a teenager boy on Dhaka-Mawa road in Kadampur area of Dakhshin Keraniganj upazila on the outskirts of the capital on Monday morning.
The deceased, about the age of 13-14, could not be identified immediately. Local spotted the body around 10.30am and informed police. Later, police recovered the body and sent it to Sir Salimullah Medical College Hospital for autopsy, said Kawser Ahmed, sub-inspector of Dakhshin Keraniganj Police Station.
Meeting of BNACWC held
12th General Meeting of Bangladesh National Authority for Chemical Weapons Convention (BNACWC) was held at Conference Room, Armed Forces Division yesterday, says a press release.
Chairman, BNACWC and PSO AFD Lieutenant General Md Mahfuzur Rahman, rcds, ndc, afwc, psc, PhD chaired the meeting. The requirement of preparation of Aggregate National Data (AND) based on the use production of schedule chemicals and production of Discrete Organic Chemicals (DOC) were discussed in the meeting.
High officials of different ministries and organizations and Armed Forces attended the meeting as members of the National Authority.
Speaker returns home
Jatiya Sangsad Speaker and Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Chairperson Dr Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury on Sunday returned home after joining the 7-day 62nd CPC in London.
Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Ministry Suranjit Sengupt, MP, Waresat Hossain Belal, MP, Abu Sayeed Al Mahmud Swapan, MP, and Begum Shirin Naim, MP, joined the conference as delegates from Bangladesh, a press release said.
Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on Post and Telecommunications Ministry Imran Ahmed also joined the conference as a member of CPA executive committee.
Turn youths into human resources
The Youth Development Subcommittee under UNFPA-financed Strengthening Parliaments Capacity in Integrating Population Issues into Development (SPCPD) yesterday recommended taking necessary initiatives to turn youth forces into human resources.
The recommendation was made at a meeting of the subcommittee held at the Jatiya Sangsad with its convener Sanjida Khanam, MP, presiding. M Fakhrul Imam, MP, and Begum Shirin Akhtar, MP, attended the meeting, said an official release.
The meeting suggested preparing a list of the countries, which has been successful in demographic dividend alongside including the name of unsuccessful countries.
Two muggers arrested
Members of Khilgaon Police Station arrested two muggers from Banasree area in the capital on Sunday night.
A team led by sub-inspector Md Jahangir Alam Khan raided the area and arrested Mujaffar Hossain, 45, and Md Russel, 28, and seized two sharp weapons and a car from their possession, said officer in-charge Qazi Mainul Islam. According to the police, both the arrestees are the active members of mugging gang that carry out the crimes across the capital.
Death anniv of Ali Ashraf today
The 15th death anniversary of Prof Md. Ali Ashraf, former Associate Professor of the Mathematics Department of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) will be held today, says a press release.
All relatives, friends and well-wishers of the deceased have been requested to pray for the salvation of the departed soul.
