Disaster Management and Relief Minister Mofazzel Hossain Chowdhury Maya today said adverse impacts of climate change may increase disaster risk and vulnerability in Bangladesh, reports BSS.
"Bangladesh is a disaster-prone country due to its geographical location.
The country may face extreme disaster events as it is already experiencing negative impacts of climate change," he told a workshop at Bangabandhu International Conference Centre in the capital, an official release said.
Chairman of Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Disaster Management and Relief Ministry Dhirendra Debnath Shambhu, Director General of Directorate of Disaster Management Riaz Ahmed and UNDP Country Director to Bangladesh Sudipto Mukherjee, among others, addressed the workshop with Disaster Management and Relief Secretary Md Shah Alam in the chair.
Maya stressed the need for inventing new technologies to cope with the negative impact of climate change to protect life and livelihood of the people.
